Wake County is a growing metropolis rich in opportunity and culture. More than 800,000 people live here, with approximately 200,000 in Raleigh, which is Wake's major metro area and the capital of North Carolina. All of Wake County, and particularly Raleigh, is growing exponentially both in population and development. This area offers a wealth of world-class culture including a nationally renowned ballet company; a symphony that has played at Carnegie Hall and Washington, D.C.'s Kennedy Center; and an art museum which hosts traveling exhibitions by Masters such as Monet, Matisse and Picasso. Together with Durham and Chapel Hill, Raleigh forms one point of the three-city Triangle area and is adjacent to world-renowned Research Triangle Park. Wake's additional municipalities include Apex, Cary, Fuquay-Varina, Garner, Holly Springs, Knightdale, Morrisville, Raleigh, Rolesville, Wake Forest, Wendell and Zebulon. Encompassing more than 850 square miles, Wake County offers an ample selection of land as well as commercial and residential properties. The area has been awarded accolade after accolade for its high quality of life, booming business climate and extensive cultural offerings. RDU International Airport is located here and offers national and international flights daily. Interstate 40 runs directly through the heart of Wake County, intersecting a variety of highways in differing directions to make commuting especially efficient to all parts of the state, as well as up and down the East Coast.
