About Brassfield

With more than 440 square miles of rolling land and lakes, Warren County is comprised of acre after acre of natural beauty. For an area this large, it is also somewhat under-populated, with only 20,000 people or so residing here. There are three municipalities (Warrenton, the county seat; Macon and Norlina) and twelve townships. Much of the land is used for agricultural purposes and has been since its late-16th century roots. The area boasts great historical significance with events dating back to pre-Revolutionary War times when Native Americans (the Tuscarora) lived here. Today, beautifully refurbished Revolutionary and Civil War-era homes reflect some of that fascinating past, hinting at the events that once happened here.

Warren County is also home to much of Kerr Lake State Park and Lake Gaston, making sailing, motor boating, skiing and other water sports abundant in the area. Medoc Mountain State Park is here as well, which is an intimate nature park offering numerous hiking trails and streams to visitors.

Along with the surrounding areas (Durham and Raleigh are both just sixty miles from here), Warren County has experienced recent population growth. And though resources continue to be focused in agricultural pursuits, many area leaders hope to add to the economy by bringing in more high-tech opportunities. The multi-county Kerr-Tar Hub initiative is an innovative approach to economic growth spearheaded by the counties of Warren, Franklin, Granville, Person and Vance. Its goal is to link the region's significant labor pool with innovative, high-tech businesses located here and in world-renowned Research Triangle Park, less than an hour away. The Hub will create a technology center for this six-county area and serve as a magnet for business investment, providing on-site training, services, facilities and networks to help participating companies stay competitive globally with a highly skilled work force.
